Comments Off on Should End Users Be Given More Control Of Their Security Systems?
Benchmark Magazine has published an article arguing that end users should be given more freedom to change the configuration of their security systems. Traditionally, the security system market has tried to prevent end users from changing parameters on their systems. This can be for a number of reasons. Two of the most common reasons are as follows:
- Mistakes made by end users could jeopardise protection of people, assets and premises.
- Installers rely on the revenue created from making system alterations.
In a world where people make daily modifications to the configuration of their smartphones and computers, Benchmark argues that their security systems should be no different. If their modifications result in system damage or failure, system logs will protect the installer from liability, and the installer will be able to charge a fee for putting the system right again.
